The Letter of James

The son of Alpheus, James was an apostle and relative of Jesus. He is called "the Less" to distinguish him form the apostle James, the brother of John, also known as "the Greater".

He was the first bishop of Jerusalem and developed an intense missionary activity. He died a martyr in Jerusalem around the year 62. He is the author of the Catholic epistle that bears his name.

His feast is commemorated along with St. Philip, another of the apostles.
