Saints and Theology of the Heart - St. Adela

St. Adela
St. Adela
Feast: December 16

Saint Adela was born in Burgandy around the year 931. She was married to Lothair of Italy at 15 or 16 years old. Her husband died after only three years of marriage. Lothair’s successor had Adela imprisoned and wanted her to marry his son. She escaped and asked Otto of Germany to help her.  They got married in 951. After the death of Otto in 973 she went to live with her brother back in Burgandy. She established monasteries and churches and worked in evangelization. She died in 999 in the convent at Seltz that she had founded.
