Saints and Theology of the Heart - St. Gabriel the Archangel

Feast together with the Archangels Michael and Raphael
on September 29

One of the seven archangels, used on countless occasions by God as messenger (Deuteronomy 8:15-27). He appeared to Daniel and explained to him a vision of future events, saying, "you are beloved" (Daniel 9:20-27). In the New Testament, he appeared to Zechariah to inform him that Elizabeth, his wife, would have a son whom he would name John (Luke 1:11-20). In the same way, it was Gabriel who appeared to Mary telling her that she would conceive and give birth to a Son, who would be called Jesus (Luke 1:26-38).

St. Gabriel is represented with a sprig of lilies, which he presented to the Blessed Virgin Mary at the Annunciation representing the sublime Immaculate purity of the Virgin Mother.
