Saints and Theology of the Heart- Life of Saints

St. Gregory Nazianzen

Feast: January 20

St. Sebastian was born in Gaul to a wealthy Roman family. He went to school in Milan. After his studies, he became an officer in the Imperial Army and was well-liked by Diocletian. During the persecutions of Diocletian, he went to visit Christians in the prisons, trying to provide them comfort. He had a great influence on many people and a governor and many soldiers converted to Christianity.

When Diocletian had found out that St. Sebastian was a Christian, he had him executed. He was tied to a tree and shot with arrows. He survived, with the help of St. Irene, and went to preach to Diocletian. Diocletian was enraged by this and had him beaten to death in the year 288.
